Friday March 24

9:00 AM  –  3:00 PM

Children grades 1-3

School’s out! STEM’s in! These single-day camps, conveniently offered during student holidays during the FCPS academic year, provide visitors with the opportunity to engage in collaborative learning, creative design, and engineering and prototyping.

During the Engineering Adventures! Camps, children will:

  • Discover the story of Garrett Brown. Brown is the 2013 National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductee who created the SteadiCam Camera Stabilizer and the SkyCam Flying Camera System used in rock concerts, national football games, and movies;

  • Work collaboratively to simulate the very experiment that helped Brown to achieve the “A-ha!” moment for his invention;

  • Engage in games and storylines that provide narratives to help solve hands-on engineering challenges;

  • Apply their math intuition and number sense to create prototyped inventions for their solutions.

Participants should bring a healthy snack and lunch. Please note that the Lab is a nut-free facility.

We require written notice if you need to withdraw from a program. Please send written notice by email requesting the withdrawal. A full refund will be provided less a $10 administrative fee if cancellation is requested with 5 days advance notice.  No refunds will be processed within two weeks of the program start day.
